Sometimes you don't need all that gear weighing you down. Here's a really basic kit for those times: a MOLLE belt, triple pouch, open-top mag shingle (for both rifle and pistol mags) a Gerber LMD field knife (not my favorite, but serviceable), a rolled-up dump pouch to keep your mags shiny and new after use, an Individual First Aid Kit (or IFAK), and a Kydex holster with the trusty old M1911. Nothing extraneous here; just utility.
I really prefer Glock for Zombiggeddon duty, but there's no denying the appeal of the M1911. It's a gunfighter's gun.
